We were so excited about having Matt’s dad drive up and stay with us for about a week at the beginning of July! We had a great time hanging out, catching up on life down south, and of course there was lots and lots of baseball!
We went to the MSU campus to eat some yummy ice cream from the dairy store, and then we visited the museum on campus.
Over the weekend, we took a trip to Detroit to see a Texas Rangers/ Detroit Tigers baseball game! (What an AMAZING coincidence that the Rangers just happened to be playing in Detroit during Don’s visit!!) Unfortunately the Rangers lost but it was still fun! We were so lucky to be able to stay with cousin Sue who lives in downtown Detroit in a high-rise apartment building. The view from her porch was amazing! (The height actually made me a bit nervous!)
Sue has granddaughters, so Ashleigh quickly found the toy closet! She LOVED dressing up in this princess dress and wearing her fancy heels.
Miriam got lots of snuggle time with Grandpa and cousin Sue.
Next door to her high-rise building, they are building a set for the next Transformers movie. Kinda cool!
Here we are! Ready for the game!
The girls did fairly well. Ashleigh loved riding the ferris wheel and merry go round (that IS the main reason you go to a baseball game, right?). Miriam had had enough at about the 7th inning and proceeded to cry until the game was over. I just walked around with her which seemed to settle her down a bit. Of course there were fireworks afterwards, so we had to stay for those (we had promised Ashleigh that if she behaved, she could stay for the fireworks since she loved the fireworks she saw at the Lansing Lugnuts game). I hid in the bathroom with Miriam until they were over. I was expecting to see a super happy girl when I emerged, but instead saw a sweet girl with tears running down her face. Evidently, the fireworks were “too close for comfort” for her since they were shooting them off just a few sections away from our seats. Poor thing. We walked back to Sue’s place and hung out for a while. Ashleigh was too wound up to sleep, so we just let her play until she ran out of steam.
Ashleigh FINALLY wore her Rangers jersey… AFTER the game. Sigh. Oh well!
The next morning we got ready and went to a brunch with some of the Mueller family who live near Detroit. It was great to see everyone, and there was so much delicious food!
(Don’t worry, my hand was holding on to her, you just can’t see it in the picture.)
Ashleigh and Miriam got some great presents from Aunt Cindy and Aunt Lorrie and Uncle Ken! Thanks so much!!
We wish we could have stayed longer, but we had to leave town for Matt to preside at a wedding.
It was an outdoor wedding, and thank goodness the weather was fairly mild! It sure was a beautiful setting, though!
Ashleigh and Miriam both loved spending time with Grandpa.
Come back again soon, please!!
