When we were planning this trip a few months ago, we decided one thing we definitely wanted to do was drive on the Pacific Highway that runs along the Pacific Coast. So, we decided to book a weekend in San Diego while we were out on the west coast. Matt used to live there when his mom was in the Navy, so he was excited about finding his old house, old school, old baseball fields, etc. We woke up early on Friday morning and Kris took Matt to LAX to pick up our rental car. We had a reservation for a midsized sedan. However, this is what awaited me when they returned…
Oh yes, a cherry red 2011 Ford Mustang…..
(Matt was just a LITTLE excited!)
We took the scenic drive from LA to San Diego, and we were able to see some incredible views of the Pacific Ocean.
Once we arrived in San Diego, we ate lunch and went to the San Diego Zoo! It was a very neat place, but boy was it hilly!!
We took tons of pictures with our camera, but I won’t post them all… just a few of my favorites!
We ended the evening by driving around Matt’s old stomping grounds. We saw his elementary school, the ball fields where he started playing baseball, and we even found his old house. Very cool!
On Saturday, we took a tour of Petco Park (the baseball stadium where the San Diego Padres play). It was a really nice stadium, and it was cool to go “behind the scenes.”

(The umpires’ room- notice the Braille on the sign??)
After the tour, we drove across a big bridge to visit Coronado Island.
The famous “Hotel del Coronado”
We then drove back to downtown San Diego, and we just happened to drive by the mall that Matt’s dad had told us to visit. It’s a neat open-air mall in the middle of a big city! Best of all, they had a Gap Maternity STORE!! :)
We then went to tour the U.S.S Midway, a Navy aircraft carrier that has been turned into a museum.
After two very busy days, this poor pregnant lady was pooped! We went back to the hotel so I could prop up my feet for a while. We left San Diego the next morning in enough time so we’d get back to LA in time for church.
Erin :)
I did the same thing when I visited San Diego a few years back. It was fun to find my old house! I"m glad Matt got to revisit his past.:)
