We began our adventure late Tuesday night by boarding a plane to Detroit and then onward to Los Angeles, CA. This happened to be the same night that our USC Gamecocks were playing for the College World Series title. Once we got off the plane in Detroit, we rushed to the nearest restaurant/bar so we could see the score. It was 0-0, nothing too exciting. We had to head towards our gate, so we didn’t get to watch any more of the game. However, imagine our surprise when we got on our plane and mini tvs were embedded in each headrest. Even better- they had satellite tv, including ESPN! As soon as we were at cruising altitude, Matt and I turned on our tvs, and we were able to watch the rest of the game. The hardest part was trying not to cheer too loudly. 1- It was a late flight and lots of people were trying to get some sleep, and 2- most of the people sitting around us were rooting for UCLA. However, when they won, we did let out a little holler and a few claps. How exciting!! WAY TO GO GAMECOCKS!!
We arrived in LA around 11:30pm PST, which was really about 1:30am “our time”. My poor body was exhausted. However, we were so excited to see Ginger and Kris when they drove up to pick us up. We drove back to their house and talked for a while before we all drifted off to bed.
The next morning, Kris and Ginger both had to work, so they let us sleep in. Once Ginger got home, we went to In ‘N Out burger. I was quite excited about eating there! It was delicious!
After a delicious lunch, Ginger took us on a whirlwind tour of LA. We first stopped at La Brea tar pits, which are in the middle of downtown LA.
It was bizarre to watch this “pond” bubble up from natural gases.
Next, we got in the car and drove around LA. We saw Beverly Hills, Bel Air, the Hollywood sign, Rodeo Drive, Kodak Theatre, and all kinds of other neat places.
Ginger and I at a neat outdoor mall area.
My yummy yogurt from Pinkberry. :)
We ended the day with a lovely meal prepared by the L-K’s, and we just chilled at their house. It was a great first day!
-Erin :)
