Our first day home, and we huddled in the basement

Thankfully, we were able to go home from the hospital after 24 hours. We got home around lunchtime on Tuesday, May 28. It rained off and on all afternoon, which was fine because all we wanted to do was snuggle with our two babies. Around 5pm, we got alerts on our phones (thank goodness for technology!!) that we were under a severe thunderstorm warning, and then about a minute later, our phones alerted us that we were under a tornado warning and that we needed to take cover. We grabbed some blankets and headed down into our basement. Our basement has 6 windows so we brought the blankets down in case there was shattering glass. We sat down on the rug in front of the washer and dryer (I was feeding Miriam this whole time). As soon as we sat down, we saw the wind pick up outside.  We heard the rain and wind pelting our house. It was scary! It was over a few minutes later and Matt went upstairs to look outside.  He came back to tell us that we had lots of  huge limbs down.  We all ventured outside to take a look at the damage, and this is what we saw…

Our road seemed to be one of the hardest hit in the area. There were trees down on both ends of our road, and our neighbors were out in full force trying to clear the roads. (Thank goodness we live out in the country because everyone owns big tractors that can easily clean up the debris!) One neighbor had 7 pine trees that were knocked over, but then our next door neighbor had no damage at all! It was so weird how the wind seemed to only hit a few houses!  We were lucky that we barely had any damage (Matt’s car has a large ding in it, and a couple of the gutters on the house were bent). Our neighbor John came over to check on us and brought his big tractor to at least move some of the largest branches out of our driveway. We joked that Miriam brought the storm because she wanted an excuse for all of our neighbors to meet her! Smile
