First Thanksgiving in the north

We celebrated Thanksgiving at our house for the very first time. And, my mom, dad, and brother made the trip up here to visit and spend Thanksgiving with us! We have a wonderful time hanging out and showing them around the Mason/Lansing area. And Ashleigh didn’t mind the extra attention she was receiving one bit! We were sad to see them go home, but we are already looking forward to their next visit, whenever that might be!

We celebrated Christmas while they were in town. They got Matt a portable disc golf basket, so that served as our christmas tree!

Hooray for a successful and fun Thanksgiving in Michigan!

14 months old

So way back on November 18, Ashleigh turned 14 months old. It’s been 2 months since her first birthday, and so much has happened (which I have neglected to mention on the blog, so bear with me as I get caught up).

The big story of this month has been the walking! This girl can WALK, and she does a lot of it. There is no more sitting in the stroller for this girl. No way. She wants to walk everywhere! She is still a bit unsteady so she falls down a lot (thank goodness for some cushion on her bottom!). She also tends to list to her right, which is funny. She tries to correct herself by leaning to the left, which is just funny to watch. Her legs are going one way and her body is trying to go the other way.  She walks all over the house just because she can. When she first started walking, she would walk a few steps and then crawl the rest of the way to her destination. Now, if she falls, she gets right back up and walks some more (or at least until she falls again).

I took her to the outdoor outlet mall with me, expecting her to sit in the stroller and kindly let me shop. Oh no. She pushed that stroller around the entire mall! She did take a nice nap after she got back in the car. She was worn out!

Here are some 14 month pictures for your enjoyment.

She  loves to dump out all of her toys and sit in the toy basket!

She also likes to take all her books off her bookshelf and read them!

Obviously not a picture of Ashleigh, but just had to show how gorgeous the fall colors were around our house!

Good morning! Ready to read the newspaper with daddy!

She loves to put items around her neck… daddy’s old cross country medals, scarves, purses, necklaces. She’s definitely a miss priss!

In the toy box again!

At 14 months, Ashleigh….

- walks all over the place

-is starting to fight back whenever she has to be strapped into something ( car seat, high chair, etc)

- is drinking whole milk and water out of sippy cups

- is eating some baby food but is transitioning to mostly the food that we eat

- wears size 3 diapers

-mostly wears size 12 month clothing

- has started saying a new word… DADDY! (this momma is not jealous. nope. not one bit. not even a little) . She pronounces it “diddy”, which makes me think of Puff Daddy (or P. Diddy) every time she says it!

-  has started to follow simple commands, like “sit down” and “come here”. It amazes us how much she comprehends!

-  has one more tooth! Her top left tooth is working its way in.

- has become a bit more consistent with sleeping through the night. She’ll have a bad night every once in a while, but for the most part she’s sleeping through the night or only waking up once.

-celebrated Halloween by going to the Trunk or Treat at our church. She dressed up as a kitty cat.

- follows Hobbes the cat all over the house. She loves that cat!

-smiles all the time! She is one happy little girl!

- had her first cold. It was rough for a couple of days but thanks go Vapor Rub and a cold mist humidifier, she seemed to recover pretty quickly.

These 14 months sure have gone by way too quickly! Time, please slow down just a little bit!
